Naushad Khan Appointed Project Development Consultant at AIP

10 August 2026 | Naushad Khan

The Association of Independent Publishers (AIP) is pleased to welcome Naushad Khan to the organisation as its new Project Development Consultant, bringing more than two decades of experience in media, communications, stakeholder engagement and strategic leadership to the role.

Khan’s connection to AIP is not new. He served on the organisation’s Board from 2014 to 2016, gaining a close understanding of the independent publishing landscape and the vital role AIP plays in supporting media diversity and public interest journalism in South Africa. That grounding now returns in a new capacity, as he works to strengthen the sustainability and innovation capacity of the country’s independent media sector.

Khan’s career spans both community broadcasting and independent print and digital publishing. As General Manager of RadioKC, he led strategic planning, partnership development and stakeholder engagement, gaining first-hand insight into the pressures facing community media — from digital transformation and audience engagement to revenue diversification in a fast-changing landscape.

He is currently Managing Editor of Cape Town This Month, and previously served as Managing Director of The Next 48hOURS, a publication that won the Sanlam Press Award for Best Niche Publication in 2005. Under his leadership, the title moved successfully into the digital space, building revenue streams through Google Ads, YouTube and social media while publishing weekly across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

Over the course of his career, Khan has built extensive networks across government, corporate South Africa, educational institutions and the non-profit sector. In his new role, he will focus on developing partnerships, facilitating collaboration between members, and translating ideas into practical, fundable projects that support AIP’s mission.

“I’m looking forward to contributing my experience and sector knowledge to strengthening the sustainability of independent and community media in South Africa,” Khan said of his appointment.

AIP looks forward to the impact Khan’s experience and networks will bring to the organisation’s ongoing work with its member publishers.
