IEC URGES VOTERS TO CHECK THEIR VOTING STATIONS AHEAD OF ELECTION DAY
IEC Press Release | Western Cape
With the 2026 Local Government Elections just around the corner, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in the Western Cape is urging voters to check where they are registered to vote, before heading to their voting stations on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
Voters must cast their ballots at the voting station where they are registered, making it important to confirm their voting station details in advance, particularly if they have moved.
Voters can check their registration details and voting station by visiting the IEC website at www.elections.org.za, sending their ID number via SMS to 32810 at a cost of R1, or using the IEC’s WhatsApp service on 0600 88 0000.
Voting stations will be open from 7am to 9pm on Election Day and voters are reminded to bring along a valid South African green barcoded ID book, a smart ID card or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate. Home Affairs offices will also be open on Election Day. For voters approved for Special Votes, voting hours will be between 8am and 5pm – either at a Voting Station or a Home Visit.
IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR HOME VISIT SPECIAL VOTE APPLICANTS
The IEC is urging voters who applied for a Home Visit Special Vote to check their application status carefully.
If a voter who was approved for Home Visit subsequently sent an SMS to 32249 (which is the SMS reserved only for applications for Special Votes at Voting Stations) it would result in the voter then being recorded for a Voting Station Special Vote only, cancelling their previous approved Home Visit.
Voters who are unsure about the status of their home visit application can go to www.elections.org.za to confirm through the ‘Check Special Vote Application Status’ query bar.
Said Provincial Electoral Officer, Michael Hendrickse: “With preparations for the elections in full swing, the Commission calls on eligible voters across the Western Cape to participate in the democratic process and make their voices heard. The IEC is in the final stretch to make sure each voter has a safe, free and fair election.”
