Western Cape – The picturesque Ayama Slent Farms in Paarl provided a beautiful setting for the 6th Annual Strides for Africa Walkathon on Saturday, 3 October 2026, bringing together participants, local vendors and community partners for a day celebrating sustainability, wellness and collective action.

Presented by the World Fair Trade Organization Africa and Middle East (WFTO) in partnership with Paarl Travel and Tourism (Pty) Ltd, the event featured a 5km walk through the farm’s scenic surroundings, alongside an exhibition promoting sustainable living and local enterprise.

Local vendors showcased an array of products, from locally produced honey and recycled wire art to preloved clothing. Animal Warriors added an important educational element, presenting puppies for adoption and teaching children how to interact safely and appropriately with young puppies at home, highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

The organisers extend their sincere gratitude to Ayama Slent Farms for generously hosting the walkathon at no cost. PACRS Security sponsored the security services, while Titans Kickboxing Club energised participants with a warm-up session before the walk. Manzi Water ensured that participants remained hydrated throughout the event.

PaarlFM provided entertainment for the crowd, while Bereshith Productions supplied the sound for the event. Winelands Studio recorded the day’s visual highlights, and photographer Mohamed Uzair Appolis captured the special moments, preserving the smiles, connections and community spirit that made the occasion memorable. The organisers thank all four service providers for their contributions.

Beyond the walk itself, the event highlighted the value of supporting local entrepreneurs, encouraging responsible consumption and bringing communities together around shared sustainability goals.

WFTO Africa and Middle East extends heartfelt thanks to all participants who came out in numbers to support this year’s walkathon. Appreciation also goes to every vendor, sponsor, service provider and partner whose contribution helped make the sixth edition a success.

As the organisers look ahead to 2027, the message remains one of unity, sustainability and community empowerment.

Thank you for walking with us and helping make a difference — one stride at a time. Together, let us champion sustainability, support our local businesses and embrace the spirit of Buy Local, Build Africa! We look forward to welcoming you back in 2027.
