By: Staff Reporter

Wellington Drakenstein Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to helping farmers thrive through smarter, more efficient and purpose-driven agricultural practices.

Speaking at the African Farming Financial and Related Production Matters Workshop in Wellington on Thursday, 7 August, Cllr Rita Andreas, member of the Municipality’s Mayoral Committee for Rural Development, underscored the importance of enabling farmers to succeed.

The workshop, attended by representatives from provincial and district government as well as the private sector, provided a platform to address key challenges and opportunities in the farming sector.

“The Municipality is committed to being a strategic enabler of farmer success, particularly with regards to infrastructure, land access and support services in Drakenstein,” said Cllr Andreas.

She noted that hosting the event in Wellington was not only significant for the local farming community, but also a recognition of Drakenstein’s position as an agricultural and rural development hub of national importance.

Drakenstein’s agricultural sector plays a critical role in the local economy, providing jobs, driving food security, and supporting emerging farmers to grow sustainable enterprises. The Municipality’s approach aims to create an environment where both established and emerging farmers can work more efficiently, produce higher quality yields, and make a meaningful contribution to the community.
