Roll on bottle gives Metro Police officers a whiff

Mandrax tablets confiscated from a suspect in Hanover Park

In yet another example of how crafty criminals can get, Metro Police officers found a stash of drugs in a roll on bottle. The incident was one of numerous operational successes in the last week

‘On Wednesday, 10 September, at approximately 13:00, Metro Police officers were conducting stop and search operations in Parow. They spotted a male behaving in a suspicious manner at the intersection of King Edward and Picton Road. The suspect ran away, into a nearby corner shop. Officers gave chase, and witnessed him trying to dispose of a roll on bottle. They confiscated the bottle and upon examination, found it stuffed not with deodorant, but a stash of drugs instead, including 11 packets of Tik, seven small packets of dagga and four dagga cigarettes. The 35-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of drugs and detained at Parow SAPS,’ said Metro Police spokesperson, Superintendent Ruth Solomons.

The drugs recovered from a roll on container in Parow.

A number of other notable drug-related arrests took place on Friday, 12 September, including:

  • The arrest of a 30-year-old suspect in Greenfield, Strand, who was found with nearly R300 in cash, five dagga bankies, 13 tik bankies, a few mandrax tablets and a scale. While en route to Lwandle SAPS with the suspect, officers noticed another man in Asanda Village, behaving in a suspicious manner. The 22-year-old had nearly a thousand rand in cash on his person, seven mandrax tablets, four tik bankies and a knife. Both suspects were detained at Lwandle SAPS.
  • In Bellville (12 September), officers arrested a suspect who dumped his stash in a rubbish bin while being pursued. When officers checked the bin, they recovered 30 mandrax tablets. The 30-year-old was detained at Belville SAPS.
  • In Hanover Park, at around midday, officers arrested a female found in possession of a bag containing 50 mandrax tablets. She was detained at Philippi SAPS.

In the last week, CCTV operators also detected at least three suspected drug deals in the Cape Town CBD and Green Point, resulting in the arrest of three suspects – two males aged 33 and 51, and a 35-year-old female.
