City warns jobseekers of fraudulent recruitment communication
Press Release

Cape Town – The City of Cape Town’s Corporate Services Directorate has been made aware of jobseekers who have been approached by an individual posing as a City official requesting personal information from them and inviting them to interviews at the Civic Centre in Cape Town. This individual does not work for the City of Cape Town and led these jobseekers under false pretences as there were no scheduled interviews for the said job opportunities under way.
The City would like to warn residents and jobseekers of fraudsters and scammers offering fake opportunities with the City of Cape Town. These scammers prey on unsuspecting and desperate people.
Residents are to please note the following:
- Applicants will never be asked to supply their job applications via WhatsApp for vacancies at the City of Cape Town
- Applicants would never be required to pay for any job opportunity
- When receiving messages from anyone claiming to be a City employee, please verify the individual’s official details (name and designation ) and the details of the vacancy in question
- Applicants will never receive a notice for assessments or interviews from the City Manager’s email address
‘This is very a sad crime targeting the jobless at a time when unemployment is high and people are desperate to provide for their families. We understand that our residents are desperate for jobs. However, we appeal to them to be extra vigilant. Residents should also remember that the City would never ask community members to pay for job opportunities or internships, or any other opportunity at the City,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
