Escaped from Court and re-arrested.

A 17 year old escaped from Bellville Magistrate’s Court on November 19 but was re-arrested days later in Durbanville. This follows a series of escapes across Western Cape courts, including six men from Wynberg and three from Strand Magistrate’s Court.

The Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services also investigated a violent incident at Pollsmoor prison where three inmates died and two guards were injured. The committee criticized poor security measures and raised concerns about possible staff involvement in criminal activity, urging stronger oversight and full staffing.
