McDonald’s highly praised in Philippi for assisting Phakama Secondary School

McDonald’s the world’s largest fast food restaurant chain, which is also a big brand in South Africa added another accolade to their fame as they have been highly praised in Philippi for their contribution in improving the school garden of Phakama Secondary School in Philippi East.  Both the residents of this area and the staff of Phakama praised McDonald’s for what they regarded as pride bestowed on them.

The school garden of Phakama Secondary School which in highly maintained under the supervision of Mr. Thabo Mavuso who is the caretaker has a garden that is surrounded by beautiful grass and flowers.  Life orientation teacher Mr. Zukisa Kelembe said: “The contribution by McDonald’s fast food restaurant has played an important part in improving further the condition of the plants and flowers in our school.  This has even encouraged the students’ interest in gardening.  As the staff members of the school, we praise our Principal Mr Jaxa for allowing McDonald’s to come to our school.

On the other side residents around the school appeared to be proud about the radiant garden of their school.  One of the residents around the school yard, 65 years old Mrs. Nokwakha Makaula said. “The maintenance of this school’s garden makes us proud and encourages good and standard maintenance of gardens.   As I have heard from one of the security guards the burger and fries outlet, McDonald’s played an important part in sponsoring in the improvement of the school garden,” she said full of smile.

Another resident of Philippi East, taxi driver who was over the school fence and who claimed he normally drops school children at the gate, Mr. Mncedisi Luzipo said: “I have always praised the garden of Phakama Secondary School and was informed by the guys at the security gate that McDonalds played a big part towards the improvement of this school garden.  As a former farm maintenance worker at the popular Lubisi Farm Dam in Cofimvaba during the days of Kaizer Matanzima in Transkei I praise McDonald’s and the staff of Phakama Secondary School.  These people have made us proud of our school all over Khayelitsha,” he said.
